Mentorship

NVTA/NVSD Joint Mentorship Program

The NVTA/NVSD Joint Mentorship program is a year-long program, organized by the Teacher Mentorship Coordinator, and supported through the Joint Mentorship Committee. This program connects protégés with mentor teachers, and builds support and mutual learning over the course of a school year. Release time is offered to both mentors and protégés as they do this important work.

Mentorship provides a voluntary opportunity for teachers to enhance their practice in a safe, confidential and learning-focused relationship. This is accomplished with an experienced colleague in a completely non-evaluative, non-remedial process based on trust of all those involved. Both mentors and protégés gain from the experience. The goal of the program is to empower all participants in their own professional growth through constructive feedback and build leadership capacity within schools and across the District.

If you are looking for more information or have any questions, you are invited to contact Teacher Mentorship Coordinator, Stephanie Strandt, at teachermentorship@sd44.ca. You can also reach out to Angelee Bulsara, NVTA Professional Development Chair at prodchair@nvta.ca.

OTHER NVTA Mentorship Funding

Funds are also available for mentorship work outside the NVTA/NVSD Teacher Mentorship Network. To access these funds you need to apply to the NVTA Executive with the attached form. Funds will be primarily for release time for teacher collaboration or peer mentorship, with a prioritization on members in the following order:

  1. Members in the first five years of their teaching career.
  2. Experienced members in their first or second year in a significantly different position.
  3. Members who do not fit into one of the above categories but who self-identify as a candidate.

Members applying for this fund need to know who they wish to work with, and what they plan to accomplish together, unlike the NVTA/NVSD Teacher Mentorship Network.

Please complete the application form and return it to NVTA Officer Managers, Beth Triggs and Terrie Hendrickson, at beth@nvta.ca.
